Dots and Boxes is a classic pencil-and-paper game that's been played by generations of students in the margins of notebooks. Two or more players take turns drawing a single line between two neighboring dots on a grid. Whenever a player draws the fourth and final side of a box, they claim it and immediately take another turn. Once every line on the grid is drawn, whoever has claimed the most boxes wins. The simple rules hide a surprising amount of strategy — skilled players think several moves ahead to avoid handing the opponent a free box, and learn when it's worth sacrificing a few boxes to control the endgame.
dotsandboxes.in is a free browser-based version of the game. There's nothing to download and no account to create — open the page and start playing. It supports 2 to 4 players passing the same device around, or a 1-player mode against a built-in AI opponent that plays a genuinely strong game: it always takes a free box when one's available, avoids handing you one when it can, and picks its sacrifices carefully when it's forced to open a chain.
The board scales from a quick 5×5 grid up to a marathon 25×25, players can pick a name and a token instead of a plain number, and the site works offline once loaded thanks to its installable app support on both Android and iOS.
